2009 REVIEW

The Swiss native opened his clay-court campaign by reaching the SFs at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters with his first win over countryman Roger Federer in the third round before losing to Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Moved from 16 to No. 12 afterwards. Opted to play an ATP Challenger Tour event in Lugano, Switzerland prior to Wimbledon and captured the title with victory over Potito Starace. Then turned in a fourth-round effort at The Championships, losing to Andy Murray in five sets in the latest-ever Centre Court finish (10:39pm) at the All England Club.
