CAPITALA TENNIS IN SCHOOLS
A mini-tennis initiative which aims to introduce tennis to school kids in order to develop new tennis talents in the UAE and promote a healthy lifestyle for the generation of tomorrow.
The programme is centred around mini-tennis which is a simple and effective way of introducing the game in the age group 7-12 through a fun and active method.
25 schools have signed up to participate in the Capitala Tennis in Schools 2009, whereof 16 schools are international and 9 are Arabic.
A Briefing session for all PE teachers of the participating schools took place on September 28th at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City.
Each participating school was supplied with mini-tennis kits and a manual with guidelines to drills, sportsmanship and intro to mini-tennis.
Each participating school received a visit in October from a tennis coach who further engaged the PE teachers and the kids in the game. Following these visits a Skills Competition Session was held on November 6th at the International Tennis Complex at Zayed Sports City where the most skilled and enthusiastic two kids from each school took part resulting in a total of 50 kids getting a chance to develop their tennis abilities further. Out of these 50 kids a final eight were chosen to demonstrate their mini-tennis skills on the centre court on the first day of the Capitala World Tennis Championship.
