Volunteers sign up to offer their services for the Capitala World Tennis Championship
November 27 2008; Abu Dhabi, UAE: Tennis enthusiasts throughout Abu Dhabi have shown their dedication to the game by eagerly signing up as volunteers for the inaugural Capitala World Tennis Championship, a three-day event at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, from 1-3 January 2009. The tournament plays host to six of the world’s best male players and will see the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Nikolay Davydenko, Andy Roddick and James Blake all competing for glory.
The Capitala World Tennis Championship has already recruited a substantial number of volunteers from the community to fill a wide variety of interesting roles, from ticket-taking, ushering spectators to their seats and providing general stewardship to ensure the event runs smoothly and without disruption.
“To have some of the world’s finest tennis players competing right here in the capital is an exciting milestone for Abu Dhabi and we absolutely need the unwavering support of the local community if we intend to leave a lasting legacy beyond the tournament,” said Peter Wilding, deputy CEO at Capitala. “Being a volunteer represents a unique opportunity for all tennis fans – not just keen enthusiasts - to get up close to world-class tennis players and enjoy the action from the sidelines,” he added.
Speaking as a registered volunteer, Jean Iggo from Abu Dhabi commented: “The beauty of volunteering at the Tennis Championship is knowing that I’m part of a remarkable sporting endeavour for Abu Dhabi. It’s also a huge incentive to know that I’ll get to see some of the best tennis players which is a genuine once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
In addition to receiving full training, volunteers will be provided a full kit of event clothing from the event’s official apparel partner, Nike. This will include polo shirts, tracksuit, shorts and shoes
