Capitala launches the Capitala Community Cup to get local tennis enthusiasts across the UAE more closely involved in the game
November 26 2008; Abu Dhabi, UAE: Capitala, today announced the launch of the Capitala Community Cup, an exciting initiative to encourage community clubs in and around Abu Dhabi and Dubai to become actively involved in Abu Dhabi’s first-ever international tennis tournament.
The inaugural Capitala Community Cup is part of a series of unique tennis themed initiatives in the weeks leading up to the Capitala World Tennis Championship, a three day event in Abu Dhabi from 1-3 January 2009, which plays host to six of the world’s best male tennis players including Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray.
Some of the key activities involved in the Capitala Community Cup initiative include;
-
Private Clinics - match competitions to win private tennis clinics with the stars
-
Special Needs Children – an opportunity to meet the star players
-
School Competitions – trophy design competition to win a training session with one of the star players and for the whole class to meet one of the top players
-
Exclusive Clinics for PE Teachers & Nutritionists – an invitation to attend an exclusive clinic with one of the top players’ coaches and nutritionists
Four tennis clubs in Abu Dhabi have enlisted their support for the Capitala Community Cup (Armed Forces Officers Club, Abu Dhabi International Tennis Club, Beach Rotana and The Club) with each club running a one-day competition for club members on either the 28th or 29th November.
In Dubai, the Dubai Tennis Academy - from its two sites at the Dubai Men’s College and the American University of Dubai - has offered their support for the Capitala Community Cup by running a one-day competition for club members on the 28th November.
The Capitala Community Cup will give tennis club members the unique opportunity to showcase their sporting talents and battle it out to attend one of the limited numbers of ‘star’ clinics on offer,
giving them exclusive access to one of the tournament’s top tennis players during the Championship.
In addition to competitive tennis, the Capitala Community Cup events will focus on encouraging players of all ages to lead healthy lifestyles with a series of tips from the coaches concentrating on prevention of heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Winners and runner-ups of the Community Cup will be offered twenty four places at the ‘star’ clinic with seventeen unsuccessful participants offered a second chance through a raffle competition. A further seventeen participants who impress organisers with their tennis prowess will also be offered a special place at the clinic with ten handicapped children from a tennis academy in Abu Dhabi also pre-selected to participate
“The Capitala Community Cup is the first exciting step in long term programme for us. We see this initiative as an important contribution to the health and wellbeing of communities across the UAE” said Peter Wilding, Deputy CEO at Capitala. “We encourage children, parents and teachers throughout the community to participate and enjoy the fun, friendship and healthy benefits of the sport” he added.
